HemaTechnologies, the creators of the ESR Stat Plus, is a private company headquartered in New Jersey. In 2005, HemaTechnologies donated an ESR Stat Plus to Haiti’s Whitney Clinic, followed by a sum of money donated in 2010 after the major earthquake. The Whitney Clinic was formed in 2003 after an orthodontist named Jim Whitney funded the construction of the only public hospital in the region. Treating patients with issues like malaria, diabetes, and malnutrition, the clinic takes care of hundreds of individuals on a weekly basis. After the 2010 earthquake that measured 7.0 on the Richter scale, the clinic’s team acted immediately to distribute safe drinking water everywhere in Port-au-Prince. The Whitney Clinic also created a makeshift hospital where the earthquake hit the hardest, and a clinic physician launched a successful tent drive, providing over 200 tents to people who lost their homes in the disaster.
